Happy (nearly) August! Where is the summer going? There’s still time for the beach and BBQs but seriously, how did it get to be August? On Thursday night you can start your weekend off with Wavves at the Paradise or Andy Pratt and Cal Cali’s New Experience at Precinct. On Friday Beck is at the Pavilion (I hope he plays something off of his Song Reader just so we can hear how he interprets it).
Dave Aaronoff and the Protagonists bring some twang to Toad and The Milling Gowns are at Radio Up, and The Modifiers and Reverse are at Radio Down for some local flavor. Too many choices on Saturday (isn’t that always the way?). There’s Spirit Kid, Pow Wow! and Beware the Dangers of a Ghost Scorpion! at Great Scott; Gauntlet Hair and Jackson Scott at Church;
Izzy and the Catastrophics are at Johnny D’s and in honor of Frank Strom’s Birthday there’s a big show with local garage bands: The Lyres, Muck + the Mires, The Monsieurs, and Sprained Ankles, all at Radio. On Sunday afternoon the Roy Sludge Trio is at Radio with their weekly honky tonk hi-jinks and the Frank Morey Band is at the Plough and Stars on Sunday night. Monday has Slim Cessna’s Auto Club and The Sterling Sisters at Great Scott. Tuesday has Chuck Prophet and the Mission Express at the Lizard Lounge. And on Wednesday night the Giant Kings are at the Lizard Lounge and Emily Peel and the Band of Skinny Men are at TT’s.

Amy’s Shows List began many years ago as an email list and continues as one to inspire people to catch live music around town. It was featured on Boston Band Crush and is now The Dig.
My email is AmysShowsList@gmail.com if you have shows to add or want to be on the complete email list (which lists shows far into the future).
