Amy’s Shows List began many years ago as an email list and continues as one to inspire people to catch live music around town. It was featured on Boston Band Crush and is now The Dig.
My email is AmysShowsList@gmail.com if you have shows to add or want to be on the complete email list (which lists shows goes into the future).
Love it when you look ahead and there are too many bands to choose from, so much better than not enough bands to choose from. On Thursday Dave Alvin of the legendary Blasters is at Johnny D’s doing his rootsy thing with opener Sarah Borges.
Also on Thursday dreamy popsters Best Coast are at Royale and famous soul funk performer Lee Fields and the Expressions are at the Brighton Music Hall. Friday night has JJ and Thee Cuban Heels rockin’ Toad; Sea Wolf at the Brighton Music Hall and there’s also Mike Gent (from the Figgs) with his band Rapid Shave at Sally O’Brien’s.
Happening on Saturday is local rock royalty Willie Alexander and guest TMaxx at Store 54 in Allston and there’s ska at the Middle East Downstairs with The Pietasters, The Allstonians, Riki Rocksteady + the Arraignments and Nick + the Adversaries.
And if you want to check outside something outside of the city limts there are 2 great choices. If you go north to Lowell, The Shods are playing at the Worthen with a bunch of other bands and if you go south to Fall River, surf sensations are at Narrows Center for the Arts. Sunday has 2 afternoon shows vying for your attention now, in addition to the Roy Sludge Trio’s regular honky tonk Sunday gig at Radio, there’s now an afternoon surf show at Passim with Matt Heaton and the Electric Heaters. On Sunday night Syd Straw who was in the Golden Palominos with Anton Fier, Micheal Stipe, John Lydon and many many others is at Johnny D’s and singer songwriter Mark Kozelek of Sun Kil Moon and Red House Painters is at the ICA.
Monday is the start of Toad’s 20th Anniversary Week with The Brothers McCann, The Blue Ribbons and Dana Colley at Toad and The Bored of Health Trio is at the Plough and Stars. On Tuesday There’s the Camberville Benefit for Boston Strong with Jimmy Ryan, Dwight and Nicole, Christian MacNeil, Jesse Dee, Will Dailey, Paddy Saul, Dennis Brennan, Tim Gearan, Susan Cattaneo, Davis Champagne, Chris Cote, Paul Ahlstrand and more at Johnny D’s and there’s Brit soul with The Heavy at the Paradise.
And on Wednesday night there’s the Dennis Brennan Band residency at the Lizard Lounge with special guest Ward Hayden of Girls, Guns and Glory. Oh yea, there’s also some band at the Garden called The Rolling Stones.
